‘THE SECRET GARDEN EXHIBITION SUPPORT UKRAINE WITH ARTIST SONYA KINCH AND THE STUDENTS OF WESLEY COLLEGE, DUBLIN’

‘The Secret Garden’ Exhibition presented by The Kilkenny Art Gallery in conjunction with The Berkeley Gallery opened at Grennan Mill, Thomastown yesterday ahead of the forthcoming 2022 Kilkenny Arts Festivals.

Exhibition organisers featured a strong visual tribute to the Ukraine with a sea of handmade yellow ceramic hand roses on blue stems, produced by the students of Wesley College Dublin. Speaking about this installation Artist Sonya Kinch said:

‘Ireland is an island of 1000 welcomes and we are all doing our part to welcome our new friends from the Ukraine. We wanted to show this in this piece, that would be installed on Irish soil. Yellow roses symbolise friendship and the blue stem along with the yellow rose represents the colours of the Ukrainian flag. So no matter which angel it is viewed it still represents a warm welcome. ‘Faílte’.

All proceeds from the sale of these ceramic yellow roses will be donated directly to support incoming Ukranian students that join Wesley College Dublin with school supplies and uniform.

Visitors to The Secret Garden Exhibition, Grennan Mill, Thomastown were treated to an outdoor sculpture garden featuring new original works from some of Ireland’s foremost sculptors. This year a National Open Submission Show is now on view in The Berkeley Gallery featuring over 400 original paintings from artists across the island of Ireland. This will be the first time that many of these artists will show their work in Kilkenny.
